There are not many prerequisites for a successful coaching on the part of the client. However, these are necessary.
Openness and willingness to change
The client does the real work of change, not the coach. The coach cannot change the client in a meaningful way. At most, a coach can manipulate their clients, but this does not produce good results.
Just like coaching, being coached also requires humility. That is, a willingness to let go of opinions and firm beliefs and to be open to what is and what comes. If you want to change something in your life, you have to start with yourself. Coaching is not about manipulating others or influencing external circumstances. It is about changing your experience of life to make you a happier, more stable, and more fulfilled person. So, you must be able to question yourself to a certain extent.
Of course, each person has their own pace. Change does not take the same time for everyone. Some may take years to fully achieve their goals while others may only take a few months. So you do not have to be ready to question the very fundaments of your whole existence to be coached! You can start with very slow, careful steps if this feels right for you. But a certain willingness to change is required to begin with.
Trust
Trust between coach and client is a necessary basis for a successful coaching process. Of course, this does not only depend on the client. There must be a certain sympathy and mutual interest in each other. Not every coach suits every client and not every client suits every coach. That is why it is important to find the right coach for yourself and to engage in a coaching process only if there is a basis of trust. That is the point of the free preliminary session that I offer.
